| press release |
À La Carte is a roving exhibition cart on wheels (resembling an ice cream cart) that will tour San Francisco with the objective of bringing art to a wider audience and exhibiting work in a different context. Artists' multiples and one-of-a-kinds will be sold to incidental passersby at popsicle prices. All proceeds support public art exhibitions. The exhibition title's double meaning explains À La Carte's activist sentiment: on a literal level, the art will be wheeled around the city via a cart; additionally, the concept of ordering an item in a restaurant "a la carte" means to order the item in isolation of other side dishes and accoutrements. The notion of ordering art "a la carte" thus critically considers what it means to exhibit and view art aside from normative gallery trappings. À La Carte will be test run in San Francisco but may travel to other locations as well. If you are interested in inviting À La Carte to your event or an event you are attending please get in touch with us at the contact information below. |
