Permi Gill
In her newest body of work, Permi Gill returns to a medium for which she was originally trained -photography-and continues her evolving interest in imagery and symbols of cleanliness and hygiene. Gill's images of a woman's hands washing a white sheet in sexually suggestive poses raises questions about metaphors of purity that inform notions of class, gender, and sexuality. Gill writes that she is interested in the historical role played by women, who, in being subjected to domestic labor ('dirty work') are thus sexualized.
Saiman Lis'
video sketches document the artist as he goes about his daily errands which consist of both 'normal' and 'bizarre' acts. Saiman's documentation serves as a reminder of the way socially transgressive behavior is normalized through repetition, and how normalcy is founded on the comforting repetition of certain acts.
