Grime: "Two Year Autopsy / Self Portraits of…Myself"
August 16 - 25, 2002

 opening reception Friday,
August 16th, 6:30 - 9:30 pm

Two Year Autopsy / Self-Portraits of Myself is a unique exploration into Grime's recently self-published journal and daily self-portraits in painting and photography. While Grime's achievements within the genres of graffiti and tattoo art have been well received internationally, the work included in this exhibition reveals an impressive ingenuity with diverse media and modes of self-expression.

Grime writes that as excerpts of visual imagery, photos of tattoos, travels around the world, and personal journal entries, Two Year Autopsy "chronicles my hope, ambition, failure, feat, elation, depression, and indifference

all competing for attention during these two years of my life." Similarly, the self-portraits exhibited at Pond, produced from July - August 2002, share a diaristic quality and almost obsessive fixation with the image. Varying in style from expressionism to "realism", Grime's portraiture suggests a profound understanding of the self in relation to self-representation.

Artist's Biography After quitting college in 1993 to pursue tattooing under Marcus Pacheco at Primal Urge Studios and Ed Hardy at Tattoo City, Grime has since received wide recognition and celebrity in the tattoo community and an international demand for his artistry. Grime's success in tattooing served as the springboard for the publication of Two Year Autopsy, his first book.
