Youth Arts Collaborative
mid-March - late-April, 2003
Funded by the San Francisco Foundation, the Youth Arts Collaborative brings together youths from the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco and the San Francisco Art Institute to work on a collaborative art project.
OneTree(s)
Lead by artist-educator Amy Berk, the collaborative will use the OneTree(s) project as a metaphor for considering the nature of relations, conceptually and practically, within the group, within the community and within tree systems. Topics discussed will be the natural, i.e. root systems of trees, natural selection and natural systems; the unnatural, i.e. cloning, artificial materials and systems of power. Questions brought up may include what/who flourishes in nature and in our society, and why, and what/who gets selected to multiply and prosper, and why.
Artwork will be shown in May 2003 at Pond alongside the OneTree(s) exhibition.
